Special Meeting
Aug. 10, 2009
A special meeting was held on Aug. 10, 2009, at 7:00 pm
in the Municipal Building located at 231 East South
Street. The following members were present: Mayor Lyle
Shoraga, Trustees Brad Williams, Dennis Ridgeway, Mick
Tirpak, Carol Huff, and Ron Price. Also present were
Atty., Colette McCarty and Clerk Linda Ash.
The meeting was called to order and a public forum was
held. Each individual is limited to three minutes.
M.Woolen complained about treatment of an individual at
the Casey's general Store by police department.
L. Steen - weed enforcement questions. Why some and not
others.
S. Cain - speeders on Wait Street
T.Marvin - complaints on loud motorcycles, speeders,
bicycle riders in the street, curfew
J. Dobson - speaking on behalf of Borns. Believe Pat is
serving to best of ability, not intimidated by others,
need strong police department.
T. Hyde - Carter is a good man. May be too well trained
for Cerro Gordo. Enforces law to his good judgment.
Wants to know if he'll be fined starting Aug. 11 at
noon.
G. Shafer - wants people's party nominee for Trustee,
objects to chief living outside of town, outside job
should not be allowed, objects to use of squad car
between town and Pat's residence, questions salary.
L.Baily - doesn't know what is going on but knows Pat is
governed by law enforcement standards
J. Morgan - toughest job is to be a police officer in a
small town. Twice saved Shafer's job before he decided
to retire. Pat has done an excellent job. Board members
are not to use position for a personal grudge, may be
the last Fathill fest, need to work together.
C. Evans - trustees elected by the community to work for
the community. Cannot afford to not have a police force.
After the public forum, Mayor Lyle Shoraga nominated
Shamarie Allen for the position of trustee to fill Mike
Songers' position. Trustee Williams made a motion to
name Shamarie Allen as trustee, second by Dennis
Ridgeway. Roll call: Trustees Williams, Ridgeway, Tirpak,
Huff, Price, all yeas. As she took her place at the
table, Clerk Ash read the oath of office to Shamarie.
There was no further business and the Board made a
motion to move to closed session at 7:30 pm on a motion
by Trustee Price, second Huff.
Regular session resumed at 9:20 and a motion was made to
adjourn by trustee Williams, seconded by Ridgeway,
motion carried.
